Yesterday, our support group had the immense privilege of welcoming Roy Turnham—a Paralympian, international blind footballer, musician, and all-around inspiration. Roy shared his incredible journey with us, reminding everyone in the room that sight loss is not the end of ambition, but often the beginning of a new kind of vision.
Growing up in Wavertree, Liverpool, Roy was immersed in sport from an early age, playing football, cricket, judo, and swimming. Despite being blind due to a genetic condition, he and his siblings have all proudly represented their country. Roy’s love for football has taken him to the highest levels with England and Great Britain, showcasing his incredible determination and team spirit.
Roy’s story is one of resilience, joy, and relentless positivity. He reminded us that with the right support and mindset, there are no limits to what we can achieve. His words truly resonated deeply with our group.
Thank you, Roy, for your warmth, wisdom, and for being a shining example of what’s possible. Your visit was more than a talk—it was a gift.
